Easter Sunday at Alexandria’s Historic Christ Church
March 26th, 2008 Categories: Alexandria, Real Estate News

Easter dawned brisk and bright this past Sunday at historic Christ Church in Alexandria. One of the oldest Episcopal congregations in the Commonwealth of Virginia, construction was started on the Georgian style church in 1767 and completed in 1773. The interior has been slightly modified on several occasions but now appears essentially as it did when it was restored in the 1890’s. The home parish of George Washington and Robert E. Lee, the church has also hosted Winston Churchill, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Rosa Parks and Archbishop Desmond Tutu at Sunday services.

Thanks for stopping by,
Michael

Michael, Looks like a beautiful church with lots of wonderful history. I actually belong to a congregation that was built in 1906 and it has tremendous history in Chattanooga. Keep up the great blog. David
David,
Christ Church does have an interesting history and a great legacy. It has served congregations, virtually uninterrupted, since the doors opened. It is now one of the 25 largest Episcopal churches in the United States and numbers some 2500 members. Because the building will accomodate only 500-550 people, there are 4 Sunday Services. Outreach programs are huge and in the fall we are going to be starting a Religion and Politics speakers series - nothing like a bit of controversy to get the juices going.
