Spring Lawn Care Classes for Alexandria and Arlington Residents
March 3rd, 2010 Categories: Alexandria, Things to Do
With Daylight Savings scheduled to begin on March 14 and the first official day of spring right around the corner on March 20, the Master Gardeners of Northern Virginia are offering two spring lawn care classes for Alexandria and Arlington residents.
The classes are designed to help Northern Virginia residents save time and money while protecting the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.
Offered in conjunction with the Arlington Cooperative Extension Service, each class will focus on caring for both new and established lawns. The presenters will cover such issues as:
- when and how to water and apply fertilizer
- lime and weed killer
- how to choose the best turfgrass for specific conditions and performance
- how to avoid mower damage to the turf
- the use of overseeding, dethatching and aeration to improve lawn health and appearance
- how to assure the safety of people, pets and wildlife when using law products
The classes are scheduled for:
Saturday, March 13, 9:30am
Fairlington Community Center
3308 S. Stafford St., Arlington, VA

Tuesday, March 16, 7:00pm
Glencarlyn Library
300 S. Kensington, Arlington, VA
My guess is that both classes will be packed – now that the snow is finally melting, the real damage to neighborhood yards is just beginning to show.
