The Last Flowers of Fall

Just four days from Thanksgiving we still have hydrangeas blooming in our front yard – the last flowers of fall.  But now, instead of pale blues and pinks, the colors mirror the surrounding trees.  We’ll cut some this afternoon and enjoy their dried beauty long into winter.

Scenic Sunday in Old Town Alexandria

On this Scenic Sunday in Old Town Alexandria, I was on my way home from church – and on my way to an open house – when I passed this mass of Virginia Creeper hanging over a fence on Cameron Street.  I stopped to get a quick picture and then looked up, up, up to see the entire side of house covered in reds and golds.

What’s better than a great Scenic Sunday in Old Town Alexandria?

Scenic Sunday in Del Ray

Welcome to Scenic Sunday.  One of our favorite houses in Del Ray is on Leslie Avenue.

I’ve never been inside and don’t know the owners but every spring they plant 11 containers with the most glorious ferns possible.  These giant beauties are meticulously maintained and even on the most intemperate days are an oasis of green.

I pass this charming home everyday on my way to the gym -

Thanks for checking out Scenic Sunday in Del Ray,

Window Boxes and Front Step Flowers Are a Visual Delight in Old Town Alexandria

For the most part, front yards do not exist in Old Town Alexandria. Instead, colorful window boxes, stately urns, clustered pots of flowers and geometric topiaries welcome visitors and home owners alike. Enjoy a “walk” on this Scenic Sunday through the streets of Old Town . . .
